Program Description
The goal of Ascension Ebenezer Resource Center and Food Pantry is to improve healthcare access, health education, health screenings and increase food security for vulnerable and at-risk individuals. The pantry has touched members of the community in meaningful ways bringing together other community partners who share the same goal.
Through community engagement and parish nursing, the Ascension Ebenezer Food Pantry has been very successful in providing additional assistance aside from food security:
Health screenings focused on prevention of diabetes
Management of high blood pressure and referral to primary care
Cooking demonstrations/ guidance while clients select food items
Face masks during Covid-19
Navigation to other community resources and Ascension wellness programs
Who this program serves
The Ascension Ebenezer Food Pantry provides low-sodium, low-carbohydrate, fresh fruits and vegetables to three specialty groups in addition to the broader community.
The 3 specialty groups are:
Diabetic and chronic disease individuals
High-risk moms and infants
Seniors
Our Impact
500 individuals served in the pantry monthly, of which:
55% have a member with high blood pressure
31% have a member with diabetes
6,000+ individuals served in the pantry in 2020.
